Keeping Water Flowing, Every Hour of the Day

Daniel has worked for the City of Roseville for nine years and has served for four years as a Senior Water Distribution Worker. Before joining, he worked for the cities of Covina and Lincoln, handling repairs and maintenance of their water systems and other parts of the cities’ infrastructure.

Daily, Daniel and his fellow team members perform maintenance on all aspects of Roseville’s water distribution system, including pump stations, pressure-reducing stations, storage tanks, reservoirs, and well sites. He is also involved in collecting water samples, maintaining interties with other water agencies, and the upkeep of Roseville’s new aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) wells.

“Our water distribution system is a complex web of pipes, tanks, pumps, and other infrastructure that must work together every second just to make sure water is there at the tap when needed,” said Daniel. “Sometimes, troubleshooting an issue requires you to really look at how everything is working together to find the solution.”

Daniel highlighted Roseville’s ASR program as a valuable innovation that will play an increasingly important role as the climate continues to change, helping to build extra resilience into the water system. ASR wells can not only pump water from the groundwater, but can also pump water into the aquifer. In years with average or above-average precipitation, the excess surface water can be pumped into the groundwater aquifer and stored there for dry years.

ASR wells are a key part of the region’s Water Bank initiative, which aims to make the most of the groundwater aquifer’s storage capacity. It is estimated that the aquifer can hold twice as much water as Folsom and serve as an invaluable resource for the region as the climate continues to warm, impacting the amount of water available from the snowpack.

Daniel is proud to be part of the dedicated team at Roseville. “This career is very fulfilling to me. I get to be part of something that provides a life-sustaining resource to thousands of people every day. It brings a great sense of satisfaction knowing I’m a part of that team.”
